I wonder if this is news because the victim is a Bangladesh worker or because the weapon is a Ferrari, or perhaps both. I don’t think it’s really news worthy because there are hundreds and possibly thousands of car accidents in Singapore every year.

AN Indian national was killed on Saturday after he was hit by a Ferrari along Clementi Road.

Mr S Raja, a 22-year-old construction worker, was crossing the street near the Japanese School at about 8pm when he was struck by the sports car.

He was flung several metres and died on the spot from severe head injuries.

He was crossing the street with a colleague from construction firm Sato Kogyo. The other man was not injured in the collision.

The 37-year-old driver of the Ferrari was arrested and is assisting police with investigations.

The car had a shattered windscreen and a damaged front bumper. Its left rear-view mirror was also ripped off.

According to the New Paper, a co-worker said Mr Raja had been in Singapore for almost two years and was looking forward to going home after earning some money.

‘Now it will never happen,’ he said.

Perhaps the symbolization of the rich striking down the poor sounds scandalous? Ferrari killed construction worker versus Toyota killed middle class man, I guess the first one sounds more.. like… news?

It’s sad that even different deaths have different weightage on the news metre. Like the girl that was killed in the Mumbai terrorist attack, her death was worth quite a few front page headlines on Straits Times. I’m not trying to be insensitive about other’s misfortunes, but honestly speaking, people die every second around the world, but some deaths are just more noteworthy? Who’s the insensitive one now…. think about it….

At times I hope my death would be announced around the world, so people can weep for me and remember that I, Priscilla, was once a living being. However, I fear that the only way for my to achieve that is if I die a very sad death. I always have silly thoughts, and one of them super silly one… Please don’t let my death be on front page of a national news paper about how I died stupidly! Haha… Something like “Girl climbed out of Singapore Flyer and attempted to escape the capsule due to clautrophobia”, or maybe “Girl got leg stuck in an escalator, rolled down the said escalator, broke her neck and died”

I’m just plain weird. I hope I don’t die a weird death though.

A poster in the room at Goldhill Centre reads: ‘Miss Loi’s temple, enter and be saved.’

Joss Sticks is the name of Ms Celine Loi’s tuition centre, where at least 20 students walk in every weekend to work on their maths. The full-time tutor of eight years has about 80 students under her charge now, each paying $60 a lesson.

The maths guru earns a five-figure monthly income from tutoring. News of her centre spread by word of mouth and also through her website (www.exam papers.com.sg).

The interactive webpage of the 33-year-old, who is single, is laced with humour. For example, students can avail themselves of her services for the ‘effective prevention of last-minute Buddha foot-hugging syndrome’, a Chinese idiom for last-minute exam cramming.
