Before I go on about the blogger, Qiu Qiu, that was supposedly begging for breast implants, I would like to add that many prominent bloggers in Singapore and overseas have sponsored advertisements and advertorials in their blogs. I don’t believe it’s wrong for them to do so, nor do I think it’s greedy of them to want sponsorship deal. Before jumping on the bandwagon lynching bloggers for being money face, please face the reality of the world. Before you start pointing fingers at bloggers, please go take a look at newspapers, magazines and even Stomp portal itself – they are full of advertisements and endorsements. I don’t see how bloggers should be given the lime light of “begging” for sponsorship deals.

I suppose the Stomper that posted it on Stomp is partly to blame, since he/she chose to use the word “begging”. I heard about this on the radio a few days ago, and the DJ actually said that this blogger was asking people to pay for her breast implant. After visiting her blog, I found that it was no where near what they claimed. What she asked for was sponsorship deals in her blog, which is quite a common thing to do. It doesn’t matter whether she’s a “model blogger” or a “blogger” or even a celebrity. Many big brands, design companies, hair salons are more than willing to sponsor celebrities to wear their products and advertise for them. Recently, XiaXue got married and her wedding ceremony was all sponsored – from her dress, to make-up, to hair, to wedding planner, to photographer and many others.

Honestly, if a plastic surgeon wants to sponsor me for a liposuction, I might seriously consider *begs for advertorial here*. I would love to seriously get sponsorship from Sennheiser and Razer, just because I use many of their products for gaming purposes.

For some reason, probably the green eyed monster + anonymous online identity syndromes, these “model bloggers” seem to get it worst than other bloggers. I am acquainted to a few of these “model bloggers” myself, and I have heard their side of the story as well. They get humiliated, called names, criticized online on a daily basis. The irony is that their blogs get many views and hits. People want to see their pictures and their lives and companies want their products to be advertised online. There is demand, hence there is supply.

So before you want to point fingers at bloggers for being greedy in wanting sponsorship or advertorial deals, take a look at your print media or online portals and tell me is there anyone in this line of work that is running a charity?

I’m sure many of you are as shocked on hearing the news that a few ABS members have stepped down! Association of Bloggers (Singapore), or ABS, launched just a week ago, inviting many criticism, detractors, insults and naysayers. Even I was quite doubtful of the purpose of this association, but I thought given some time, they might be able to answer some of these tough questions posed by bloggers.

http://www.xtralicious.com/2009/01/29/curtain-call/

I had already said so earlier on – I will step down after I had done what I should do as this is a protem committee after all. And so I am doing so to spend more time with my family and new work projects.

http://nicole.sg/archives/henceforth-i-take-my-leave/

I take my leave from protem committee of ABS. Hence forth, I shall be concentrating on my studies, the bloody assignments, and tech65.

http://www.mr-endoh.com/blogosphere/stepping-away/

I have stepped down from the association and will no longer be handling any issues pertaining to the progress with immediate effect.

Before anyone jump to conclusions that the criticism is too strong, it is a decision made based on internal issues rather than the initial. Hope that will clear up some potential speculations. That’s to say, speculations are totally anticipated.

And from this source… Paddy Tan stepped down too, although his plurk time line is set to private so I’m unable to view…

Firstly, mrendoh is right that there will be many speculations as to why FOUR out of TEN members have suddenly stepped down on the same day. Obviously there have been internal conflicts, but they also contribute it to the lack of time. I’m sure the “I have no time” excuse works for many cases, but I don’t think it will work very well in this scenario. Hmm.

Next, what’s this “protem committee” they speak of? I did a check on dictionary.com and pro tem is legal short form for pro tempore, which means, ‘temporarily’ or ‘for the time being’. I’m not too sure as to why the committee is made up of temporary officers, directors and presidents? Maybe it’s a normal thing in associations or corporations for “protem committees” to exist, but it didn’t make much sense to me. What do I know, I’ve had less than a year of actual working experience. I r noob.

I’m not sure who’s next to leave, but it seems the problems around this association isn’t going to stop here. I might be wrong. Let’s read the fortune book for the Ox year to find out more!

Update 30/01/2009: DK resigned too! So did Jacelyn aka Daintyflair !

The count is now at FOUR out of TEN members left. I guess the party has really ended.

I’m a blood giving virgin, and the whole idea just sounds so cool! Games, prizes, door gifts, and doing a good deed all a day’s work!

As I headed down to Health Sciences Authority, where Singapore Blood Bank is located, nerves started to kick in. I was scared. It suddenly dawned on me that blood will be drained out of my arms…. scary….

Luckily, there were many familiar faces there like Sheylara, Nadnut, Fidelis, Andystorm and as well as other friendly bloggers that were chilling out and enjoying the buffet spread they had for us. We even had a game of snake and ladder!! I was partnered with one of the Nuffnang staff, I think her name was Claire or Clara? And WE WON!!!

Look at the goodie bag!!! A box of BRANDS Chicken of Essence to help with my recovery!

Well, it was time for me to donate blood along some other bloggers…

I must say that it looks very scary and painful initially, but the nurses were very steady and assuring. We were given a squeezy ball to hold on to.

When the needle first pricked into my veins, I didn’t feel much pain and it was definitely very bearable. I have taken various injections for immunization and this is definitely not painful as compared to other injections!

I’ve got a certificate from Nuffnang!

The trendsetter of copying and pasting other’s words into your blog entries is none other than one of our notorious blogging queen – Dawn Yang

This trend of copying and pasting isn’t created by Dawn Yang, but perhaps her influence in the subject makes it more socially acceptable to do. If you have been constantly getting away with plagiarizing your blog entries, your readers probably just assume you finally ate an Einstein pill and washed it down with a ice-blended dictionary. Unless, you can pull it off as gracefully as Dawn, whom didn’t get exposed until she threw herself into a cat fight with Xiaxue.

I’m actually on the fence with this one: Better to copy and paste entire articles and give credit or copy and paste paragraphs and claim credit?

I feel cheated and annoyed whenever I click on misleading blog title posts as directed by blog aggregators such as Ping.sg and Nuffnang’s Innit. I click on the juicy link thinking I’ll be reading about a constructive idea another blogger has to share – but nooooooo…. That’s not what I get.

If you’re lucky, the blogger actually just leave you with a one-liner – the link of the juicy story written by someone else. We just love sharing links on our blogs because Twitter, Plurk and Facebook updates just aren’t enough!

if unlucky, you might read three paragraphs of the blog entry and then realizing that it was completely lifted from an online news article. Then you feel cheated and you add the blog to your ‘never to read again’ list (I don’t have such a list, just for the records)

Look, if I want to read the news, I can read Straits Times, I can watch it on Channel 5, CNA, Channel 8 and on cable. If I want to read news online, I’ve got Channelnews Asia and other online news avenues such as google news and yahoo news. If I wanted to read scandalous Asian news, we’ve got STOMP! and Tomorrow (slightly more politically scandals) and even Apple daily.

I DON’T NEED YOU TO TELL ME ABOUT THE NEWS I CAN READ NEWS BY MYSELF THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

See, when we read blogs, we want to read “normal people”. We don’t want to read journalists. We want to read about Jane, the girl that lives next block, or Janice, the unfaithful air hostess (sorry to stereotype). We don’t need someone publishing for the world to see “LOOK! HAVE YOU SEEN THIS PIECE OF NEWS?”, exceptions are allowed for shocking news like Obama becoming next President of USA, or someone important that passed away.

These bloggers irritate me because I have no idea why do they even bother blogging about a news article with NOTHING to say about them? If you have an opinion, say it. If you don’t, then shut it. Capiche?

I find it less offensive if you pass other’s writings as yours, because as long as I don’t know that, it doesn’t bother me. Ironic, isn’t it.

This look was inspired by Jay Chou’s latest album 魔杰座 which has a few circus themed songs… one of my favorite song is 乔克叔叔 (Uncle Joker) which is about a sad clown entertaining people..

Black faux satin skirt with over shoulders straps from This Fashion $25

I’ve been telling people that This Fashion is the best place to shop for Halloween. I contemplated to blog about this, since, well, it doesn’t sound very nice to This Fashion… But the staff at This Fashion wasn’t very nice to me either! Well, This Fashion has cheap clothes that you can wear once and never again and you won’t feel the pinch! Perfect for Halloween shopping since most of the Halloween stuffs can only be worn once or twice a year. I might wear the black skirt again since it’s kind of cute!

We gave up queuing for Zouk after an hour because the queue was not moving! We headed down to Clark Quay and strolled around cam whoring instead!

Esther and Grace decided to join their friends at Butter Factory while Fidelis started to feel unwell

I tagged along with Esther and headed down to Butter Factory, which landed us in yet another queue. Getting sick of tired of queueing up all night without actually getting into a club, I decided to go back to Zouk to look for Celest and her friends from Kimage.

They discovered that we didn’t had to queue if we just paid for cover charges! Zouk had free entry for any customers that are wearing full costumes for the party, but apparently we could have gotten into Zouk if we just paid $28! Damn!

It was bloody crowded and we took pictures with many people!! The pictures are with Celest and her friends, so I guess I’ll have to post them up another time!!!

But what she said for XX’s auditions make sense… perhaps her demure face plopped on her tall physique makes her look kinda transy. Oh well.

XiaXue’s search for BFF is actually quite amusing! Kudos to her and her producing team. I thought it was going to be something like Eye For a Guy kind of show… lame… unrealistic… boring… scripted… but Search for BFF is actually entertaining and fun to watch! Sorry ah, I don’t read XiaXue’s blog very often, so I’m going as far as to say that her show is more entertaining that her blog >,<

Now I’m tempted to make my own podcast/video thing… I’ve been having ideas about podcast shows for a few months now, since Sab had her Treats.sg… I can’t seem to find the time away from work and other commitments to do this. Sigh! I hope at least ONE university accepts me into their post grad course next year so I can be a slacker student again!!

Ok, just because it’s funny…

I was invited to CommunicAsia 2008 by my dear friend and blogger extraordinaire, Sabrina ! Yet another fun filled event!

We arrived at Singapore Expo at 2pm even though the agreed meet up time was at 1.45pm, and yet we’re one of the early ones there! Next time when anyone wants to hold any outing for bloggers, be sure to ask them to meet up one hour earlier so they’ll be on time!

Gavin Foo graciously arranged for a mini tour around the exhibitors, mostly technology and communication companies. LG even had a mini show with Korean dancers dancing to the tune of a LG advertisement-like show. Mostly, the focus of the LG booth were on their latest mobile set – The Secret.

I must say that LG has pretty good marketing strategies and actually tries to set themselves apart from other big mobile brand names like Nokia and Sony Ericsson. The Secret sounds like a really cool and mysterious phone

Taken from CommunicAsia 2008 website:

CommunicAsia2008 – Where the Business of Technology Comes to Life

The region’s premier Information and Communications Technology event returns to Singapore from 17 – 20 June 2008. In its 19th edition, CommunicAsia have been transforming the technology and business landscapes since 1979.

Reflecting the synergistic trend in the infocomm and digital media industries, the show will showcase the full spread of convergent technologies and applications from industry leaders intended to enhance enterprises’ mobility and users’ lifestyle.

The CommunicAsia Exhibition and Summit serve as a global platform for top operators, service providers, regulators, vendors and consultants to network, exchange industry best practices and shape the future of technology.

ME WITH BIG LG PHONE!

Beautiful bloggers group photo~

Weird thing was when I showed my ex-colleague (the intern) the pictures, he exclaimed “Woah, how come all your friends so pretty!” LOL! Somehow I got the feeling he was referring to my friends, and only my friends, not me

True enough, nadnut pointed out that my foundation looked very tanned that day and it was because I wanted to try a new foundation in hopes that my makeup wouldn’t smudge half way through the event. Alright, my make-up stayed the whole day, in the WRONG SHADE! Another thing I realised is even though I personally find the gorgeous and young bloggers beside me to look very nice in their pictures, I thought initially that their make-up was a little too much for their age. I’m wrong! You have to put more make-up, darker eye liners, glossier lip gloss to look good in pictures! Especially in these events that are always indoors and no natural lighting, it’s essential that every blogger (female) should wear more make-up.

I need a recommendation for a good, easy to use, smudge free eye liner. Please advice

Woohoo! I love attending events, of any sort, and the Scarlet Tv series is one of the best I’ve been too in recent years! Who’s Scarlet? Sabrina invited me to witness the unveiling of Scarlet’s true identity – it’s a TV series. Yes, a series of TV. As in, it is a product line – a new series of cool, funky, sleek, LG TVs.

Overall, this marketing stunt is a brilliant one from LG. The Scarlet series was launch worldwide from 28 April to 2 May 2008 and everyone has been attending the party thinking it’s a TV series. The advertisement was cleverly scripted and like a true espionage, fooled everyone including myself! I’m so glad was invited to LG Singapore’s Scarlet premiere and had lots of fun~!

1. The place

It was held at a huge event room in the complex where the Singapore Flyer is. We were welcomed with red carpets, beautiful and tall models and a camera crew. I thought I was quite under-dressed since I came straight from work… Oh well. Many people that I came in eye contact with also smiled at me, I suspect I looked like some LG executive because of my working clothes O_O?

2. The people

I met celebrities like Wong Li Lin, Allan Wu, Irene Ang etc. , top boss of LG Singapore, and of course, many other bloggers like Daphne, Jean, Farinelli, DK, Jessica, Peggy, Nadnud, Ice-Angel, and of course, Sabrina! Oh, also got to meet Jarius from Comiqs.com, Alvin from omy and Gavin Foo from Fleishman Hilliard.

3. The food

I had… 2 plates of Pan-fried Wagyu Beef. Honestly, I feel Wagyu Beef is over-rated, but perhaps it’s because the tray of beef was directly under the air-conditioner…

I forgot to bring my blusher out so when I saw the glasses of red and white wine, I grabbed a glass and tossed it down my throat. Pink cheeks au natural

Mean while, the camera men went around taking pictures of the attendees and there was a booth where they printed card-size pictures and even laminated them! I love these cards!

4. The ride

It was my first time riding the Singapore Flyer. It is essentially, a huge, headache inducing, vertical, merry-go-round. haha

The cabins were very spacious and it even had 2 benches in the middle. Sabrina & Derek basically sat on the chair the whole time. Poor Sab was so reluctant to shift her butt to take pictures!

The rest of the bloggers, including myself, went on doing our bloggers business – taking hundreds of pictures of ourselves, other bloggers, the Singapore Flyer, and Singapore’s beautiful night scenery.

5. The goodies

We returned to the party after our 30 minutes snail ride, and we were welcomed at the door by Samantha with goodie bags! I love goodie bags because, I’m a Singaporean
