I’m shocked by Jamie Yeo’s honesty in her blog. Disclosing her personal details such as losing her virginity at 18 and masturbating at 6 years old in her blog, it is simply shocking. It’s shocking because she blogged it knowing the potential backlash this might cause. I hope this doesn’t come across wrongly, but perhaps she might even enjoy sharing her bedroom secrets to the public

I had my first orgasm when I was 6. Wait!!! Before you fly off the handle and faint or something. Let me explain. When i was a little girl, I found that if I cross my legs tightly and squeeze for a long enough time, I’d feel this strange but awesome and warm sensation down there. The sensation would only last for about 6-10 seconds but it felt so good I couldn’t help but repeat the “cross legs and squeeze” action again and again throughout my childhood. Years later, when I finally learned (and experienced) what an orgasm meant through sex education and a bit of self exploration, I finally realised that I was more familiar with masturbation than most kids my age.

Some people made comments frowning at her blog post, saying that she’s seeking for attention, she’s a bad celebrity role model, she’s not a good Christian because she had pre-marital sex. One even called her promiscuous – although I’m not sure how losing your virginity pre-martially makes you a promiscuous person, and masturbation surely doesn’t make you a promiscuous person.

During puberty girls sometimes start to recognize sexual feelings because of the increase in hormones in their bodies. Often, girls discover that touching or rubbing their genital area feels good. This is called masturbation. Many girls masturbate during adolescence. It is a normal activity, even though it is not commonly talked about.

Taken from UMHS Pediatric Advisor

Since puberty starts anywhere between 7 to 14years old for girls, it’s not surprising that Jamie Yeo started masturbating at 6, early bloomer some call it. The average age that Singaporeans lose their virginity is at 18.4years old according to the famous Durex’s Global Sex Survey (2005). So Jamie Yeo isn’t really an early bloomer I guess?

The part about her not being a good Christian because she had pre-marital sex is just weird. She can’t change what she has done in the past. We just need the Anglicans to be even more tolerant than they already are with homosexuality, and extend their love to pre-marital people lol… The average age of first marriage of Singaporean women is 27.2 years old, and since the average age of Singaporean women losing their virginity is at 18, I believe a large number of the population practices premarital sex.

Last but not least, I wish to point out that Jamie Yeo is a VERY average person so don’t talk about her like she’s some kind of freak. How average is she? She lost her virginity at 18, the national average, and got married at 27, also at the national average age. Sexually, she is an average person, just like you and me

Of course she’s a celebrity and she deserves people scolding her, sorry la, that’s their line of business. Like what Tina Fey said at the recent Oscar’s “if you ever start to feel too good about yourself, they have this thing called the Internet! You can find a lot of people there who don’t like you!”

I’ve been very reluctant to blog about this issue, but after reading the blog reactions from many concerned bloggers, I feel it would be hypocritical of me to have any opinion and not blog about it for fear of political reasons.

Politics within the local blogosphere haven’t been very fun, funny, or entertaining. Most of the time, it’s just childish kindergarten format squabbles. With the Association of Bloggers Singapore (ABS) trying to “unite” local bloggers, I can’t help but to feel that it’s another attempt to draw lines between bloggers. Everyone has to take a side, their side or no side. I don’t believe that any groups can unite all local bloggers – perhaps only those that are already active in the blogging scene. But face it, there are only perhaps a couple of hundred bloggers in Singapore that takes blogging seriously. Majority of blogs you come across are anonymous or super casual (updated like twice a year?), most blogs are just outlets to vent your frustrations.

My guess is most people that are willing to pay to join the ABS, would be individuals that are already somewhat involved in the local blogging community. I don’t think it’s a good or bad idea, but I’m just skeptical of how much can ABS really aid local bloggers. How can ABS help if there’s a flame war going on? They cannot and should not take sides, being a professional body. How can ABS help when there are chaos and politics in the local blogosphere? How are they going to educate bloggers to blog responsibly?

Although there are many questions that would be left unanswered for the time being, I believe that action speak louder than words. Perhaps we should have an open mind about this new association, and give them a chance to prove themselves. No point in slamming them, or slamming any individual, when they have only just begun.

Here are some more reads to blogger’s views on this association. Some are rather supportive, some not so.

ABS President Eastcoastlife

Anonymous blogger’s protest

The Lycan Times’ opinion

Daphnemaia’s call for boycott of ABS

Hollyjean pointing out why there’s no need to join ABS

Brian (PR guy) ‘s take on ABS

Perhaps ABS needs to answer some of these difficult questions for bloggers to be able to accept them. But after reading Hollyjean’s updated blog post on an “invite only” association, I’m not sure this will take off very well.

I was invited to attend SoyJoy’s little blogger get together last week. I was a little annoyed because I’ve already watched the movie they were showing Super Size Me. Trust me, it’s not a movie you would want to watch twice!

Why are Americans so fat? Two words: fast food. What would happen if you ate nothing but fast food for an entire month? Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock does just that and embarks on the most perilous journey of his life. The rules? For 30 days he can’t eat or drink anything that isn’t on McDonald’s menu; he must wolf three squares a day; he must consume everything on the menu at least once and supersize his meal if asked. Spurlock treks across the country interviewing a host of experts on fast food and an equal number of regular folk while chowing down at the Golden Arches. Spurlock’s grueling drive-through diet spirals him into a physical and emotional metamorphosis that will make you think twice about picking up another Big Mac.

.

.

.

We were presented with snacks during the film, I only ate the banana and SoyJoy bar!

We were offered various snacks and sinfully delicious chocolate bars during the film, and I’m not a big fan of snacking but I was very hungry so I gobbled up a banana.

At the end of the movie, I felt the same disgust as I had a couple of years ago when I watched this movie. But of course, I don’t eat fast food very often, and moderation is important when it comes to such things.

We had to fill up this little form to indicate what you ate that night.

Carbonated drink

SoyJoy bar

Banana

The point is, banana and the soft drink are high in Glycemic Index. But honestly, this is my dinner! Ok, I was still hungry after the event so I had a small supper when I got home =x

A lower glycemic index suggests slower rates of digestion and absorption of the sugars and starches in the foods and may also indicate greater extraction from the liver and periphery of the products of carbohydrate digestion. A lower glycemic response is often thought to equate to a lower insulin demand, better long-term blood glucose control and a reduction in blood lipids. The insulin index may therefore also be useful as it provides a direct measure of the insulin response to a food.

I suppose this fruitcake-like health bar should be very popular with health conscious people and diebetics. As for me, I don’t mind eating the bar, but I rarely snack in the first place, so I’ll probably give it a pass.

Thanks SoyJoy for the nice evening, and Brian of Oglivy for helping to organise this blogger’s event, and of course Sab for my invite

I’ve been invited and attending more bloggers events these couple of weeks, perhaps because it’s the holiday season, end of the year product launches are rushing to push their brand new toys out into the market. Through these events, not only do I get to sample and test the latest gadgets and health and beauty products, I also get to interact with marketing people and other bloggers.

Some more memorable conversations I’ve exchanged with other bloggers were….

1. Tech65 dude sharing the website at which he bought his digital camcorder at a few hundred dollars cheaper! Warehouse123.com sells a wide range of digital cameras, digital SLRs, audio and camcorder devices. Their office is based in Hong Kong but I suspect goods from China? The company also offers a one year warranty. But I’m seriously consider buying a new digital camera from them!

2. IZ, Gavin and me talking about money. I’m obviously the most ignorant one between the three of us. I have no idea what to do with my money except to hide it underneath my pillow called DBS. While both offered some pretty good advices, I think I’m still going to hold back on what to invest for now. I’m going to be a student soon again, would be bad if I tied up all my money

3. Sab telling me about her new job at Gadget3. Now I’ve got a better idea how companies lias with PR agencies and lias with media press like Sab. We also had a discussion on how the old media is moving towards the new media: PC Magazine USA is now totally digital, shutting down their print, Tina Brown and a team of writers from print media background starting TheDailyBeast.com – a news site that churns out top news in bite size for people like us that have no time to actually read everything.

Who says geeks only have a life behind their monitors! Perhaps no one, since geeky is the new cool!

I recently received a mailer from Nuffnang for an invitation to their new initiative…

Are you my type? – first and ever blogger blood drive in Singapore.

Nuffnang's Blood Donation Drive

I’ve never donated blood in my life before, not because I’m scared of the idea, but it’s one of those things that you want to do but too lazy to make time for.

I’ve mentioned in my previous blog post, about my friend’s sister who was recently diagnosed with cancer. In the last week, she had to go through two major operations to remove some tumors in her body. As the tumors were very near her vital organs, she lost a lot of blood. My friend said needed four bags of blood transfusion during the last operation. When I visited her at Changi hospital, she was receiving blood transfusion for yet another bag of blood because her body was too weak.

We all assume that we aren’t facing a blood shortage crisis in Singapore, hence, why should we donate? Some of you, like me, want to donate but just keep pushing the idea aside because it’s too troublesome. Facing my friend’s sister, frail and helplessly lying on the ICU bed, with tubes probing into her veins and other “holes”, I feel we shouldn’t always have to find excuses for ourselves.

I want to donate blood, hence I will this Saturday.

Will you?

Philips‘ blogger’s exclusive event was one event that other PR agencies in Singapore should aim to achieve if they intend to break through into the New Media scene.

The Ride

Have you ever sat in a Limousine before? Well I’m proud to say that I have! Philips ordered a Limousine to pick us up and dropped us off at the event at Scarlet Hotel. I must say they really didn’t hold back on pampering us bloggers!

Limousine parked outside of Scarlet Hotel

The Location

I’ve heard about boutique hotels, but I haven’t actually been into one. When I first heard about Scarlet Hotel, it naturally reminded me of the LG’s Scarlet event I was invited to a couple of months ago. The decor was superb and posh, a small but cozy little gem situated behind Chinatown. Rooms were comfortable and the food served really did tingled my tongue.

The People

Besides getting to interact with other bloggers like IZ, Fidelis, Nadnud that I’m already quite familiar with, I also got acquainted with Andystorm and the dudes from Tech65. L’Oréal was also invited to mingle with us and give us extra beauty tips! I didn’t push for getting my hair done cause my hair’s already so damn short But Sab and a few others got their hair temporarily permed up like barbie. I wanna be barbie too!

We also got to mingle with the people from L’Oréal and Philips, sharing their views about blogging and new media. They were very sincere in listening to our feedbacks and opinions on blogging and hosting blogging events. For the first time, I really felt like bloggers were treated with the same respect as journalists!

The Programme

The night started with a presentation of Philip’s latest technology in television, with sharper images and a cool back panel behind the TV monitor that displays coloured light to provide a better viewing experience

Immerse yourself in a captivating Ambilight experience. Featuring Perfect Pixel HD Engine, this TV combines Perfect Motion Sharpness, 2250 trillion Colours and Perfect Contrast with Ambilight Spectra 2 — lighting up your viewing experience

We were also presented with a blind test for Philips MP3 player inside the Limousine. The blind test experience was quite cool cause of the unique setting. Random people were waving at us inside the Limousine and they probably thought we were some rich and important VIPs inside the Limousine! A photographer from Livestudio was also inside the Limousine with us capturing the moment.

This picture was not taken by the photographer, but by Vanessa I borrowed her camera for the night because I still haven’t gotten a new camera yet

Priss, IZ, Andystorm

Next we had the good people from L’Oréal Singapore demonstrate some of their newest hair curling tools. As I mentioned previously, I didn’t get my hair permed because I’ve got really short hair now. Although, after the entire event was over, I did try to D.I.Y. with the curler. Bad idea to try curling your short fringe, it ended up curling in all directions!!! No pictures for that

Priss and Nadnut hiding behind Esther

I love this picture! Esther looks like a barbie!

We were also given a presentation on Philip’s latest in-ear headphones SHE9850 that costs $179 in retail stores at the moment. The sound quality is really good! Included were interchangable ear pieces from small to large to ensure it’s a comfortable fit even for dumbo (the elephant?) haha… But I’ll still be sticking to my Sennheiser for now, sorry Philips! Philips did however gave us a MP3 player in the goodie bag!!! Also, I received another Philips GoGear LUXE MP3 player to review! So generous of them to pamper us like that!

Andystorm won this sleek and cool headphones for lucky draw!! And the crowd was booing…. because we all wanted it for ourselves!! haha

I’m smiling in this picture just to be polite. We’re all thinking in our heads “WHY NOT ME!!! “

Nice pictures thanks to WIlly Foo and his team of photographers from Livestudio.sg

Overall, I give Philips full marks for their generosity, their sincereity, their efforts in pampering us and making us live like Kings and Queens for one night! Special thanks to Gavin Foo and his team from XPR PR agency and of course my dearest BFF Sab for extending the invitation to me!

I’ve not been blogging much lately, mostly due to the shit piles I’m afraid to step on as I blog. Shit piles a.k.a. blogging scandals. You don’t want to get your feet dirty with shit when the shit is not in your way right?

I’ve been reading and following quite a few blogs to get more scandals. Yes, I read scandals as my daily dose of entertainment every morning before I go to work. I’m an e-Auntie.

One thing I’ve realized is, if you are fluent in English, you have the upper hand in a flame war. You don’t even have to use big words to write good flaming posts, in fact, if your written English isn’t that wonderful, please please don’t use big words. It only makes you look dumb.

I don’t want to quote any particular instances, but when I read KennySia girlfriend versus KennySia alleged affair scandal, I was tempted to take the side of the affair girl. Simply because I couldn’t really understand what the girlfriend was blogging about. If people can’t understand what you’re flaming or what you’re trying to put across, you have already lost the battle! How do people side you when they’re not sure what you’re trying to say, especially people that doesn’t know the background story? How to win in a blog flame war when you already lost supportive votes due to poor English?

So follow these simple rules when writing a flame post:

Don’t use big words. Unless you can pull it off as well as nocturne.

Use a spell checker. I’m not sure if Internet Explorer has a spell checker, but I find Firefox’s spell checker to be quite reliable.

Check your grammar. Firefox doesn’t come with a grammar checker, but you can try using Microsoft Words spell checker.

Base your flame with facts. If there aren’t much facts to work with, then at least flame with lies that sounds credible – but risk getting sued like Xiaxue did.

Call all your friends, fans, online communities, your ex-classmates, your boyfriend/girlfriend’s buddies to post supportive comments in your flame post and go to your targeted flamee’s blog to create havoc. Though we should never drag the family in you shit affairs.

Calling the flamee mean names and posting her pictures up is just low and cheap. We’re out to ruin blogs, not lives. We don’t want people ruining their lives over flame wars, and you don’t want this to be on your conscious either. To my future detractors – Sorry, but even if you post my picture up I wouldn’t jump off the building. I’m simply too egoistic and narcissistic to think my pictures look anything but cute. But that doesn’t mean other people out there would take it as nicely as I do.

Use simple, straightforward, direct English. You could add in your own dialect at times. In fact, if you’re more fluent in another language, don’t be afraid to flaunt it like Darth Grievous does with his super ZHAI Chinese flame posts. Only downside to it is your flamee might not understand what you’re flaming him/her. If you don’t really care about that, then by all means – flame with your most powerful language.

Don’t start a flame war if you don’t think you can stomach it. My blog(s) have been through numerous flame wars, mostly because I like to defend my principles and I take offense with people that blog about things that go against my moral beliefs. I see myself as a superhero defending what I believe for, fighting in the mud with imbeciles. At the end of the day, I continue living my life, I continue to blog. If you can’t take the heat, don’t join in the game.

Don’t get into a flame war with 15 year old kids. I’ve done that once, and boy do I regret doing that. Imagine someone coming to your blog day and night screaming “KNNBCCB! eu old CB! KNN! CCB! CCBKNN! eu tink eur english good izzit? eu CB!” My God. Hands down to these crazy teenagers with nothing better to do than to litter your blog with incomprehensible sentences. They can’t seem to type in proper sentences so there’s no way you can reason with them.

Ok, I have no idea why I’m teaching people to flame. But the next time you want to engage in a flame war, remember the case study of Kenny Sia scandal, and you should really check out nocturne and Darth Grievous’s Art of Flaming. Hopefully these tips will not come in handy for you, flaming isn’t very healthy. But like ice-creams, flaming once in a while is fun

One last thing, my posts are full of grammatical errors. Hur hur hur. But so as long as your flamee has worse command of English than you, it doesn’t really matter

Shouldn’t it be obvious that people shouldn’t use blogs as private diaries? Once you post something in your blog, it’s for the world to see. If you really need to type your diaries instead of writing them the conventional way, then type your diaries into notepad text files and save it in your computer.

Lately, there have been quite a few scandals and criticisms on what is posted on people’s personal blogs. Yes, a blog is a medium whereby ‘commoners’ like me and you can act out our inner fantasies of being a journalist or even a tabloid magazine writer, or perhaps to an extend, an online biography of yourself But blogging about your family or your work or even friends is just plain insensitive and inconsiderate.

Read here and here for some news about this SIA stewardess blogging about her work, her passengers and her affair with a married pilot.

Why people shouldn’t blog about their work:

1. Blogging ANYTHING that casts your company in a bad light is disloyal and to a more serious extent, treacherous.

2. Blogging about your clients/customers is very unprofessional.

3. Blogging about your co-workers is worse than point 2, because you never know who’s reading your blog. Creating more backstabbing publicly would cause more unhappiness at work and possibly affect the morale of your colleagues. Not to mention, no one would trust you with their secrets at work incase you blog about it.

4. Blogging about your boss is simply stupid. Your boss should fire you for that.

5. Disclosing private and confidential information about your clients, co-workers, boss, HR, cleaning aunty, is simply rude and disloyal.

6. Disclosing your companies’ secrets should/might warrant you a lawsuit.

Sorry DK, had to steal from your blog post cause I’m too lazy to take my own pictures >,<

For more pictures and detail of the fun we had during the LG Scarlet launch party you can read my earlier post

Things like this makes me really feel like a real blogger hur hur hur

But of course, not as pro as my dearest Sab aka Princessa that made it to MyPaper ! Congrats!
