I bought two gadgets from this year’s IT Show 2009 held at Suntec – a Sonic Gear speaker and a 4Gb thumbdrive.

I opened my Sonic Gear speakers this morning and was quite excited to test out music, movie, and gaming on the speakers as compared to my Sennheiser headphones.

I was quite shocked to find that my speakers started playing radio! The Sonic Gear Tattoo 333 model does not come with FM radio, so I was scratching my head when the speakers started playing an English radio channel. It wasn’t clear music playing, it was more like a hissing static sound, with a very poor reception of the radio station playing in the background. It sounded like something out of a horror movie.

I immediately went to google my problem and I am not surprised to find others having the same problem

http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=1856292

i just bought a new sonic gear tattoo 333 speaker, reach home immediately try out. after i turn on the switch, i heard high pitch noise and buzzing sound and fm radio also. i called my fren to check and he seems to have the same problem except fm noise. anyone knows wad is the problem or has solution?

I knew immediately that the problem was with the speakers, since there were so many others that faced the same problem as me. I feel very dreadful to the realization of having to return to IT Show at Suntec and squeezing with the crowd!!!!!

I returned to IT Show on Saturday, after searching for an available carpark for 30minutes, squeezing through tens of thousands of people, finally reaching the sixth floor. Luckily, my friend accompanied me there and helped me carry the bulky set of speakers up.

When I went to the Sonic Gear booth, I told the guy about my problem with the Tatoo 333 speakers, and he looked at me very puzzled. He said he would have to test the set first. He tested my set with his Ipod, and obviously there wasn’t any hissing sound. I insisted that the problem would still surface if I brought the speakers home!! I told him about Hardwarezone forum, that others had the same problem as me! He was shocked and asked me for more information regarding what the other forumers were saying.

I think he didn’t want me to make a din at the Sonic Gear booth so he issued me a refund immediately, seeing that I wouldn’t be satisfied otherwise. I was contemplating whether to blog about this or not, since the guy was kind enough to give me my $59.90 back, but I was still pissed that he made me come down to IT show again.

Anyway, on Sunday I did some search on Hardwarezone forums again, this time for any good recommendations for 2.1 speakers below $100. After some searches, I decided to get the Creative Inspire T3200 that is retailing at SG$89.90. I saw on one of the forum threads that there’s a new online shop that was selling the T3200 at SG$81.90 from http://noble.sg and the delivery is about SG$5! I didn’t hesitate due to the good reviews given for the T3200 model.

I was surprised that Noble.sg made the delivery on the next day! That is very efficient! I could even select the cash-on-delivery payment mode, so I don’t have to worry about giving my credit card details online. I have set up my speakers and they are working very fine. The bass is good and loud, and my mother was complaining they could hear the bass from the living room -_- Although i still prefer my Sennheiser when it comes to listening to music, having a 2.1 speakers for watching movies and animes is definitely better!

Oh yah, I nearly forgot the point of this post – DO IT SHOWS SELL FAULTY GOODS?!

Not that I am a regular visitor to that site *twiddles thumb*

Usually, I am directed to the site when there are juicy scandals, sex scandals mostly. But Gutterpost has the most comprehensive collection of sex scandal pictures, including reports, insider’s information, and other interesting information not of use to me. It’s like the best and most popular internet tabloid site ever! Listed on Alexa as Singapore’s TOP blog, as well as Blogger’s TOP blogging site, it would be a mistake if Blogger were to terminate Gutterpost’s account!

Daphne Ang, featured on Gutterpost a while back, nude acrobatic pictures O_O Shocking.

I’m going to be somewhat a hypocrite here and say.. I don’t support Gutterpost’s distribution of private and personal information and pictures, who knows, some day you or I might end up on Gutterpost! That thought scares me. On the other hand, it is a very informative (in some perverted ways) and interesting site to visit OCCASIONALLY. Do everything with moderation k! *stares at friend that is frequent visitor of Gutterpost*

Don’t tell me Singapore police/government finally did something, and appealed to Blogger to bring the site down?

For the sake of you wankers out there (pun intended), hopefully Gutterpost backs up his stuff.

I’m shocked by Jamie Yeo’s honesty in her blog. Disclosing her personal details such as losing her virginity at 18 and masturbating at 6 years old in her blog, it is simply shocking. It’s shocking because she blogged it knowing the potential backlash this might cause. I hope this doesn’t come across wrongly, but perhaps she might even enjoy sharing her bedroom secrets to the public

I had my first orgasm when I was 6. Wait!!! Before you fly off the handle and faint or something. Let me explain. When i was a little girl, I found that if I cross my legs tightly and squeeze for a long enough time, I’d feel this strange but awesome and warm sensation down there. The sensation would only last for about 6-10 seconds but it felt so good I couldn’t help but repeat the “cross legs and squeeze” action again and again throughout my childhood. Years later, when I finally learned (and experienced) what an orgasm meant through sex education and a bit of self exploration, I finally realised that I was more familiar with masturbation than most kids my age.

Some people made comments frowning at her blog post, saying that she’s seeking for attention, she’s a bad celebrity role model, she’s not a good Christian because she had pre-marital sex. One even called her promiscuous – although I’m not sure how losing your virginity pre-martially makes you a promiscuous person, and masturbation surely doesn’t make you a promiscuous person.

During puberty girls sometimes start to recognize sexual feelings because of the increase in hormones in their bodies. Often, girls discover that touching or rubbing their genital area feels good. This is called masturbation. Many girls masturbate during adolescence. It is a normal activity, even though it is not commonly talked about.

Taken from UMHS Pediatric Advisor

Since puberty starts anywhere between 7 to 14years old for girls, it’s not surprising that Jamie Yeo started masturbating at 6, early bloomer some call it. The average age that Singaporeans lose their virginity is at 18.4years old according to the famous Durex’s Global Sex Survey (2005). So Jamie Yeo isn’t really an early bloomer I guess?

The part about her not being a good Christian because she had pre-marital sex is just weird. She can’t change what she has done in the past. We just need the Anglicans to be even more tolerant than they already are with homosexuality, and extend their love to pre-marital people lol… The average age of first marriage of Singaporean women is 27.2 years old, and since the average age of Singaporean women losing their virginity is at 18, I believe a large number of the population practices premarital sex.

Last but not least, I wish to point out that Jamie Yeo is a VERY average person so don’t talk about her like she’s some kind of freak. How average is she? She lost her virginity at 18, the national average, and got married at 27, also at the national average age. Sexually, she is an average person, just like you and me

Of course she’s a celebrity and she deserves people scolding her, sorry la, that’s their line of business. Like what Tina Fey said at the recent Oscar’s “if you ever start to feel too good about yourself, they have this thing called the Internet! You can find a lot of people there who don’t like you!”

I’ve been very reluctant to blog about this issue, but after reading the blog reactions from many concerned bloggers, I feel it would be hypocritical of me to have any opinion and not blog about it for fear of political reasons.

Politics within the local blogosphere haven’t been very fun, funny, or entertaining. Most of the time, it’s just childish kindergarten format squabbles. With the Association of Bloggers Singapore (ABS) trying to “unite” local bloggers, I can’t help but to feel that it’s another attempt to draw lines between bloggers. Everyone has to take a side, their side or no side. I don’t believe that any groups can unite all local bloggers – perhaps only those that are already active in the blogging scene. But face it, there are only perhaps a couple of hundred bloggers in Singapore that takes blogging seriously. Majority of blogs you come across are anonymous or super casual (updated like twice a year?), most blogs are just outlets to vent your frustrations.

My guess is most people that are willing to pay to join the ABS, would be individuals that are already somewhat involved in the local blogging community. I don’t think it’s a good or bad idea, but I’m just skeptical of how much can ABS really aid local bloggers. How can ABS help if there’s a flame war going on? They cannot and should not take sides, being a professional body. How can ABS help when there are chaos and politics in the local blogosphere? How are they going to educate bloggers to blog responsibly?

Although there are many questions that would be left unanswered for the time being, I believe that action speak louder than words. Perhaps we should have an open mind about this new association, and give them a chance to prove themselves. No point in slamming them, or slamming any individual, when they have only just begun.

Here are some more reads to blogger’s views on this association. Some are rather supportive, some not so.

ABS President Eastcoastlife

Anonymous blogger’s protest

The Lycan Times’ opinion

Daphnemaia’s call for boycott of ABS

Hollyjean pointing out why there’s no need to join ABS

Brian (PR guy) ‘s take on ABS

Perhaps ABS needs to answer some of these difficult questions for bloggers to be able to accept them. But after reading Hollyjean’s updated blog post on an “invite only” association, I’m not sure this will take off very well.

The trendsetter of copying and pasting other’s words into your blog entries is none other than one of our notorious blogging queen – Dawn Yang

This trend of copying and pasting isn’t created by Dawn Yang, but perhaps her influence in the subject makes it more socially acceptable to do. If you have been constantly getting away with plagiarizing your blog entries, your readers probably just assume you finally ate an Einstein pill and washed it down with a ice-blended dictionary. Unless, you can pull it off as gracefully as Dawn, whom didn’t get exposed until she threw herself into a cat fight with Xiaxue.

I’m actually on the fence with this one: Better to copy and paste entire articles and give credit or copy and paste paragraphs and claim credit?

I feel cheated and annoyed whenever I click on misleading blog title posts as directed by blog aggregators such as Ping.sg and Nuffnang’s Innit. I click on the juicy link thinking I’ll be reading about a constructive idea another blogger has to share – but nooooooo…. That’s not what I get.

If you’re lucky, the blogger actually just leave you with a one-liner – the link of the juicy story written by someone else. We just love sharing links on our blogs because Twitter, Plurk and Facebook updates just aren’t enough!

if unlucky, you might read three paragraphs of the blog entry and then realizing that it was completely lifted from an online news article. Then you feel cheated and you add the blog to your ‘never to read again’ list (I don’t have such a list, just for the records)

Look, if I want to read the news, I can read Straits Times, I can watch it on Channel 5, CNA, Channel 8 and on cable. If I want to read news online, I’ve got Channelnews Asia and other online news avenues such as google news and yahoo news. If I wanted to read scandalous Asian news, we’ve got STOMP! and Tomorrow (slightly more politically scandals) and even Apple daily.

I DON’T NEED YOU TO TELL ME ABOUT THE NEWS I CAN READ NEWS BY MYSELF THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

See, when we read blogs, we want to read “normal people”. We don’t want to read journalists. We want to read about Jane, the girl that lives next block, or Janice, the unfaithful air hostess (sorry to stereotype). We don’t need someone publishing for the world to see “LOOK! HAVE YOU SEEN THIS PIECE OF NEWS?”, exceptions are allowed for shocking news like Obama becoming next President of USA, or someone important that passed away.

These bloggers irritate me because I have no idea why do they even bother blogging about a news article with NOTHING to say about them? If you have an opinion, say it. If you don’t, then shut it. Capiche?

I find it less offensive if you pass other’s writings as yours, because as long as I don’t know that, it doesn’t bother me. Ironic, isn’t it.

I’ve never seen a negative advertisement campaign on our local media before – until now. Channel 5 played an advertisement to boast Mediacorp‘s viewership as compared to Singapore Press Holdings.

I assume it’s a tactic to show advertisers how advertising on Mediacorp is better than Singapore Press Holdings, but I find this ad completely dumb. There could be some underlying vendetta between Mediacorp and SPH that I wasn’t aware of, but we only have ONE main T.V. program Channel 5, Channel 8 and Channel U – under Mediacorp and we only have ONE main print media Straits Times, Lian He Zhao Bao, Lian He Wan Bao – under Singapore Press Holdings. I don’t see how the two should be in any competition at all seeing that they respectively dominate in their own markets.

I rarely watch local TV, so I’m not sure how long have these negative advertisements on Straits TImes and various newspapers under Singapore Press Holdings have been running. For those that have not seen the ads, it runs something like this:

Chart shows Channel 5 viewership as compared to Straits Times readership.

Chart shows Channel 8 viewership, then Channel U viewship as compared to Lian He Zhao Bao viewship.

With a voice actor declaring how Mediacorp is the best place to advertise to reach more target audience.

Although Mediacorp might have surveys and facts to purport this claim, there is no reason to air this on prime air-time to show the public these figures – unless they are trying to give their viewers a perception that Mediacorp is more suprerior than Singapore Press Holdings.

This kind of cheap negative ad campaign stunt reminds me of the recent US Presidential race where Mc Cain ran many negative ads on Obama. Except, in this case, Mediacorp is the fore runner and it’s plain silly to slam your opponent if they aren’t even competing in your primary domain! Not to mention, for our local Singapore elections, it is illegal to publish negative ads against other parties!

So, can someone explain to me why I find Mediacorp’s latest advertising stint so distasteful? I tried to google to see if anyone could shed some light behind the silly ads, but all I could find was another old war between Mediacorp and SPH dated back May 2002. Could the recent financial turmoil affected Mediacorp’s advertising profits and they have no choice but to resort to this?

I didn’t bother reading the entire blog of The Many Lies of Dawn Yang, the entire blog comprising of only ONE post. The one, and I suspect will be, the only post, exposes Dawn Yang‘s fake identities created in CozyCot forums. Quoting juicy insults hurled by the suspected Dawn, telling people what a sore and bitchy person Dawn really is.

Do I really care? No, I’m just bored.

Should you care? No, not really, unless there’s really nothing else to read.

So what if Dawn Yang secretly wants to bitch about other celebrities? So what if Dawn Yang idolizes herself? She can only have the luxury to spill all these repressed thoughts with her fake online identity – not implying that her identity on her legitimate website is real. The only problem with that is she got caught.

I guess much could be said about the person that created this one post wonder as well, we can only imagine what kind of hatred he or she has towards Dawn.

How many more secrets do you have Dawn?

I am going to be digging for them, one-by-one, until the the day you apologize, and DISAPPEAR FOREVER from the limelight you never deserved.

Perhaps, like some of you have speculated, the person writing this blog is really Xiaxue! It won’t be surprising, now, would it? But we have witnessed how Xiaxue is fearless when it comes to insulting Dawn and other people, she would have blogger about it in her blog instead of creating an Anonymous blog to slam Dawn Yang. Or am I giving her too much credit?

I guess I’m not for or against either girls. They should be glad that people are talking about them, whether in a good or negative light. When people stop talking about them altogether, it would mean people have forgotten about them. Like piranhas feeding on human, they feed on human – attention.

Why do I feel that the local blogosphere is becoming more and more aunty-fied?

Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with behaving like an aunty – if you’re over 40years old, with kids, possibly retired or a housewife, likes hanging out with other women like yourself in your neighbourhood market place or hang-outs like kopitiams, playgrounds, supermarket… I’ve got lots of respect for such “aunties” because they are your mothers, relatives (real aunts), your retired teacher… and basically your average elderly women.

HOWEVER.

I’ve spotted a NEW KIND OF AUNTY!!!

I present to you…………… The Beginning of E-AUNTIES

♥

I’m sorry that I have an urge to blog about Singapore’s favourite drama – Xiaxue versus Dawn Yang. I can’t help it, simply, because, I overheard other e-aunties blogging about this.

So what do you do when you overhear a juicy piece of scandal, drama, gossip? You pass it on like a hot potato!

Yes! We have to keep blogging about how these scandals are so scandalous. “Aiyoh… how… Xiaxue might get sued leh!”, “So that Dawn Yang really very fake ah?”, “Actually both these siao char bohs equally fake lar!”.

Damn right they are fake. It’s a BLOG for goodness sake.

I’ve also noticed the increase in number of Pings and Pongs in Ping.sg, a locally based blog aggregator… wonder whyyy…

This Ping Market seems to be attracting more aunties to our big gossip mongering family! Ah, the last time we had such a big party was during the Edison Chen sex scandal. Remember that (lots of traffic!)?

While you’re here in this bustling market, feel free to buy some fish or vegetables. Or, you could even dig out some old rumours about Jean and her molestation blogpost gone wrong!

Ah. Don’t we all love scandals and gossips.

At the end of this post, we have to come to these conclusions…

1. Priss is an e-aunty

2. If you read this entire post, you’re an e-aunty

3. There’s no shame being an e-aunty

4. Someday, all aunties will have blogs

Editor’s note: Please take this piece with a pinch of salt, I really don’t like gossiping for the sake of making other people’s lives miserable but I couldn’t curb my inner-aunty.

Shouldn’t it be obvious that people shouldn’t use blogs as private diaries? Once you post something in your blog, it’s for the world to see. If you really need to type your diaries instead of writing them the conventional way, then type your diaries into notepad text files and save it in your computer.

Lately, there have been quite a few scandals and criticisms on what is posted on people’s personal blogs. Yes, a blog is a medium whereby ‘commoners’ like me and you can act out our inner fantasies of being a journalist or even a tabloid magazine writer, or perhaps to an extend, an online biography of yourself But blogging about your family or your work or even friends is just plain insensitive and inconsiderate.

Read here and here for some news about this SIA stewardess blogging about her work, her passengers and her affair with a married pilot.

Why people shouldn’t blog about their work:

1. Blogging ANYTHING that casts your company in a bad light is disloyal and to a more serious extent, treacherous.

2. Blogging about your clients/customers is very unprofessional.

3. Blogging about your co-workers is worse than point 2, because you never know who’s reading your blog. Creating more backstabbing publicly would cause more unhappiness at work and possibly affect the morale of your colleagues. Not to mention, no one would trust you with their secrets at work incase you blog about it.

4. Blogging about your boss is simply stupid. Your boss should fire you for that.

5. Disclosing private and confidential information about your clients, co-workers, boss, HR, cleaning aunty, is simply rude and disloyal.

6. Disclosing your companies’ secrets should/might warrant you a lawsuit.

If you really need an outlet to relief your stress, work place gossips, complaints… go whine at your girlfriend/ boyfriend/ teddy bear. Don’t wash your dirty laundry in public and risk getting sacked, in other words, don’t be stupid.
