on Jun 21st, 2010A Love Letter To Jay Chou 給周杰倫的情書
Dearest Jay,

I fell in love with your music 8 years ago. You brought life to the Chinese music industry with your unique style, and you were so talented, everyone loves you. I admired you even more as an artist when I found out that you composed and write your own songs. I have never liked another modern musician as much as I liked your songs. Besides, I’m not one who usually listen to Chinese radio and songs.
Your songs have accompanied me through many of my darkest hours; when I was studying for my exams, when I was going through break-ups, when I was feeling that the world is such a horrible place to live in… you were always there. I never ever get sick listening to your songs, and they always draw out certain emotions from me. Do you like Chopin? I was really glad that you named one of your albums after him – November’s Chopin 十一月的蕭邦. One of my all-time favourite songs is Chopin’s Fantasie Impromptu in C Sharp Minor, I love classical music. They say Chopin is the poet of the piano, then you are the poet of modern Chinese music, my poet.
Another aspect of your music that I admire is the way you incorporate traditional Chinese themes into your songs, whether it’s Chinese instruments, Chinese opera-style singing, Chinese themed lyrics etc. It’s so wonderful to have an artist like yourself, celebrating our traditions and history, bringing the essence of Chinese culture into modern media.
Ok, enough of your songs. Everyone loves your music, we get that. I may not be the biggest fan out there, I haven’t watched all of your movies, I don’t own all your albums, I have never attended any of your appearances or performances in Singapore before. I am, however, someone that wants to meet you and get to know you. Yes, for my own selfish reasons, but nonetheless, I think we could even be friends!
If I had to list 3 of my favourite Jay Chou songs, it would be: 黑色幽默, 最长的电影 and 愛情懸崖. I’m definitely a fan of your earlier works, but I do love listening to your new songs as well like 乔克叔叔, which inspired me to dress up as a clown for halloween 2 years ago.
The reason why I’m writing you this love letter now, after being your secret admirer for 8 years, is… I’m finally going to see you in person this July at your 2010 The Era World Tour on 25th July.

This will be my first time seeing you in person, and I am really excited and nervous. Although this letter, our first meeting, the first time you are going to sing to me… is all one sided, and just some crazy ranting of a fan… All these are important to me, because you are important to me. I’m sure you get fan mails, mountains of them, and if you ever get the chance to read this, you might just wave it away or stop reading at the first sentence… regardless of how you feel about me or my letter, I still love you Jay
It would be the most awesome thing ever if I ever bump into you in person and actually get to talk to you, for just a while. I can’t imagine what I would say to you. It’s unlikely that we will get a chance to an actual conversation if we met in Singapore or Asia, since everyone recognizes your face and we won’t have any privacy. So sometimes, I fantasize that we meet 20 years from now, in a pub somewhere in Europe. That would be nice. You know what’s nicer? If somehow we get acquainted during your trip to Singapore in July this year.
I’ve been finding ways of getting the letter out to you, so I’ve joined your Facebook and Twitter groups and hopefully someone would know how to pass this to you. If you don’t ever get to read it, it’s fine as well. If you do read it, I hope you’ll be happy that you made a difference in someone’s life (mine) and you are someone very important and dear.
Love you always,
Priscilla
