I had an awesome time at World Cyber Games WCG Singapore 2009 this year. This is my first ever WCG I’ve participated, and I’m thankful that my team, Team Anomaly, won 2nd for Team Fortress 2. I’ve taken some pictures from Spotgamers website,,, I will upload my pictures soon!
Priss standing up and celebrating win over o9k. LOL
To be honest, I do felt that WCG 2009 did not have the best arrangements, although, I have to give credits to the organisers and game marshalls that have worked their butts off for this event. I’m sure it wasn’t an easy task for them too, and I had the privilege of watching them set up the computers 2 days before the event.
These are my suggestions to future gaming event organizers, especially one that is this big in scale… The post on Team Titans’ blog had some really good points that I have to agree on as well…
1. It is very tiring for teams to wait for many hours for their matches. Titans had to wait 7hours in between their matches and my team waited about 4hours for ours. For Team Fortress 2, I understand that that were problems with setting up the computers and having computers getting the Blue Screen of Death BSOD, but a 4 hours delay of match really tire out all the TF2 teams that were involved. I guess for TF2 case, we can only blame Windows?
2. The gaming arena was too cramped and to place the main stage beside the tournament wasn’t a great idea. During one of our matches, I could hear the Cosplay people on stage singing songs and performing. It was really distracting at some point. I think there was a band playing behind us, when we were having our matches, too. I screamed my lungs out during WCG so that my team mates could hear me. Ratsyc (TF2′s game marshal) commented that I was one of the loudest/aggressive TF2 girls there -_- Ok, it wasn’t very feminine of me to shout like the guys, but hey, this is what makes the game exciting! And, that is why we game
3. Titans and SCOGA made a good point that the onus is on WCG and WCG’s sponsors to send our national champions overseas to play for WCG finals in Chengdu. I wasn’t aware previously that if you win WCG, it only means you have the right to represent Singapore, but you have to fork out your own wallets to attend the WCG finals. It’s quite sad really. If you check WCG Singapore’s website, only Asphalt 4 and Wise Star 2 winners get sponsored hotel stay in Chengdu. The Counterstrike winners gets S$3000 for the team, which isn’t enough to cover airtickets and accomodation for the entire team. Or perhaps, they should request from MCYS for monetary support! Gaming is afterall, a national past time and sport (arguably).

Yea i wasn’t aware about the sponsorship and stuff until i won and people come telling me i only have the right to represent Singapore but not the means. Pretty sad for teenager like us as it would cost a bomb to actually pay for ourselves but to represent a country , sounds pretty

Thank you for mentioning my name. -_-”
Sorry for the delay on first TF2 game day, apart from 2 computer problems like bsod and hard drive problem, some of the steam accounts got locked out during subsequent games after the internet went down, thats why we kept going around replacing coms.
It’s understandable for players to shout on top of their lungs as the game are exciting especially during close fights or when you’re being backstabbed and all.
But if i remember correctly, you guys are wearing headsets with mic equiped right?
Anyway, nicely played games.

When we’re playing online, we usually use voice activity on the voice chat program Mumble. We don’t have to press an extra button, which can be quite the hassle during crucial moments.
We’ve actually been training in lan shops, training to shout commands across all players, so there won’t be lag or mis-press of buttons. One or two of our members’ mic volume couldn’t be adjusted louder too during WCG
But really, shouting and playing tf2 matches is really awesome
