The article published on Straits Times newspaper today interviewed a lady, and asked her if she thinks the money could be better spent i.e. donating to needy people. She replies that building a church would bring many people closer to God. I’m lazy to go get the newspaper in my living room to get the exact quote, also, Singapore reporters having tendencies to misquote people, so let’s just assume that’s what she said for argument sake.
Why do we need mega entertainment center, of which an auditorium would be used for New Creation’s new church to bring people closer to God? These lost little sheep can only feel God’s love if they can enjoy materialistic entertainment? Having a 500million dollars entertainment complex is more important than, let’s say, feeding the poor, sending children to school, helping other Christians in more meaningful ways? SG$19 million dollars is A LOT OF MONEY that can potentially help many people.
See, if we use the money and help the needy, they will be converted, thus we can bring them closer to God too. The people at New Creation isn’t going to stop going to church because they don’t have the next cool location to hold their concert praise and worship.
Ok, since I’m not a church-goer, I probably won’t understand the difference between going to a church and going to a mega-church. What they do with the money, is up to them I guess.

This verse is taken out of context… In and of itself there is no meaning, and is used to bash others… but if we look at the whole piece, we find that it is used to teach that only Jesus and His death on the cross can lead a man into Heaven… Nothing else, not even good deeds…
Another verse i would like to use is
” The poor you shall always have with you.” Matthew 26: 11
Even if we use the $19million and give it to charity, the number of poor people will never change.. and the people of New Creation Church will still be “home-less” without a place to call our own. In these time of “recession”, I believe it is much better to show the world that there is a solution, and it is in God.. Why do i say so?
A building that costs $990 million is no small task.. But if God says build it, will He not give you the means to build? If the money comes from the church members, then indirectly, the church members have to be prospering as well! The poor cant do anything, big or small…
The reason we give is based on a concept of sowing and reaping.. Thats why its called a “miracle seed”. When farmers plant a seed, they expect a harvest. otherwise, plant for what ? But when it grows, does it give back 1 seed? or 1 tree? with many fruits, and inside, many seeds!
“Then Isaac sowed seed in that land [during the famine] and received in that same year a hundred times as much as he had planted, and the Lord favored him with blessings. 13 And the man became great and gained more and more until he became very wealthy and distinguished; 14 He owned flocks, herds, and a great supply of servants, and the everyone envied him.” Genesis 26:12-14 AMP
Are we in a “famine” of our own now? Then we can share in the same as Isaac and sow.. and in that same year we can expect a 100 fold blessing!! This is good news to the poor isnt it?

However I have to disagree on this point
The number of poor people will never change…. but helping even 1 person is 1 person saved. A Chinese saying goes “Saving a life exceeds building a seven-storied pagoda”.

aiyah, you can’t really say the money could have potentially helped many people.. no doubt it can, but the donors gave their money to the church and they are perfectly happy with the church using that money to build a new church lor. if they wanted to help poor people they’d have donated to some charity instead. so if the owners of that amount of money would rather build a church, it doesn’t really matter what people like us think right?
