I loved Ponyo on The Cliff by The Seaside a..a. Gake no ue no Ponyo 崖の上のポニョ!!! Although some people compare this show as an anime re-make of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, but I beg to differ.
Ponyo is more than just a mermaid-turn-human, Ponyo’s made alive into a magical girl (mahou shoujo) character in the typical anime typecast by Miyazaki. Even after she became a little 5 years old girl, she had the playfulness and impulsiveness of a fish!
Hayao Miyazaki is just a fantastic anime creator. I am ashamed to say I haven’t watched Spirited Away and a few others of his classics.
