I am proud to declare that I have completed the 10Km Singapore marathon! Although I walked most of the way, due to lack of sleep the night before and lack of proper training, I think it was quite an accomplishment!

I signed up for this marathon with my alumni, Monash University, so I got to run in the Monash jersey. Another of my friend Cho went for the marathon sponsored by her company, so we decided to complete it together. However, after the first kilometers, I started to feel uncomfortable and uneasy. I can usually run for at least 2Kms before tiring out, but I was simply too excited the night before and had only three hours of sleep!! :(

I brisk walked most of the journey and told Cho to run ahead. I must say that the 10Km seemed to have gone on forever, especially towards the end! But when I saw the crowd at Padang, the enthusiastic runners racing to the finishing line, I let adrenaline took over and dashedddddd. I endured the pain and mental tiredness and finished the race in 1hour 37minutes.

All participants received a medal at the end, so even though my timing wasn’t very good, I still get a medal for completing the race!! Yay!

Cho did much better than me by finishing 1hour 24minutes, and we agreed that next year we’ll train harder! Next year, we’re going to try for half a marathon, which is approximately 21kms! I’m not sure if I have the discipline to start training earlier this time, but I guess the experience of having ran 10km was definitely a rewarding one!

It’s important for us women to keep in shape and in health, as we get older, we get more problems like osteoporosis and other evil sounding diseases! Do take a look at this portal www.womenandsports.sg for sports women can take up and maybe you’ll find a dance class or activity that you might like :)
