on Dec 4th, 2008Singapore: Too Poor For Aids Medication?

There’s an increase in number of HIV positive patients in Singapore. It’s a number that can be solved by money. Money isn’t everything, but it can solve many problems.

Straits Times have been focusing on aids pretty frequent in the past week, likely because it was World Aids day a few days ago. We have 3000++ aids patients in Singapore and the number is increasing every year. Aids patient have to pay over S$1000 every month in order to pay for anti-viral drugs.

As I was searching on google for the online version of channelnews asia or straits times coverage on World Aids Day, I found a fellow blogger that very eloquently stated out everything I have to say. The blogger summarizes why Singapore Government should subsidize Aids treatment in Singapore, and not deny people the right to live because they have no money.

I also have this to add:

I propose Singapore to adopt socialized healthcare system. Socialized healthcare has it pros and cons and you can read more about it on Wikipedia and read here for UK’s healthcare system. I feel that even IF tax have to be raised because of the new healthcare system, it’s worth it. Simply because we cannot predict if you or I, or if any of our loved ones, would be inflicted with an illness that would require alot of money. Who knows when someone you know tells you that he or she will die because they have no money to live.

Money is very very important, but if you don’t have the health to use it, if people around you are dying, money is so dispensible. If Singapore is truly a first world nation, we shouldn’t have people dying because they can’t afford medication.
