on Nov 29th, 2008Soyjoy’s Bloggers Exclusive Event @ Screening Room

I was invited to attend SoyJoy’s little blogger get together last week. I was a little annoyed because I’ve already watched the movie they were showing Super Size Me. Trust me, it’s not a movie you would want to watch twice!

Why are Americans so fat? Two words: fast food. What would happen if you ate nothing but fast food for an entire month? Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock does just that and embarks on the most perilous journey of his life. The rules? For 30 days he can’t eat or drink anything that isn’t on McDonald’s menu; he must wolf three squares a day; he must consume everything on the menu at least once and supersize his meal if asked. Spurlock treks across the country interviewing a host of experts on fast food and an equal number of regular folk while chowing down at the Golden Arches. Spurlock’s grueling drive-through diet spirals him into a physical and emotional metamorphosis that will make you think twice about picking up another Big Mac.

We were presented with snacks during the film, I only ate the banana and SoyJoy bar!

We were offered various snacks and sinfully delicious chocolate bars during the film, and I’m not a big fan of snacking but I was very hungry so I gobbled up a banana.

At the end of the movie, I felt the same disgust as I had a couple of years ago when I watched this movie. But of course, I don’t eat fast food very often, and moderation is important when it comes to such things.

We had to fill up this little form to indicate what you ate that night.

  • Carbonated drink
  • SoyJoy bar
  • Banana

The point is, banana and the soft drink are high in Glycemic Index. But honestly, this is my dinner! Ok, I was still hungry after the event so I had a small supper when I got home =x

A lower glycemic index suggests slower rates of digestion and absorption of the sugars and starches in the foods and may also indicate greater extraction from the liver and periphery of the products of carbohydrate digestion. A lower glycemic response is often thought to equate to a lower insulin demand, better long-term blood glucose control and a reduction in blood lipids. The insulin index may therefore also be useful as it provides a direct measure of the insulin response to a food.

I suppose this fruitcake-like health bar should be very popular with health conscious people and diebetics. As for me, I don’t mind eating the bar, but I rarely snack in the first place, so I’ll probably give it a pass.

Thanks SoyJoy for the nice evening, and Brian of Oglivy for helping to organise this blogger’s event, and of course Sab for my invite :)

Priss & Sab
