on Apr 17th, 2008Gag order to stop spoilers - why it should be neccessary

In response to IZ Reloaded’s post on gag order for The Contender Asia show….

Well, I understand how some of you feel that it’s silly for them to do this. But just imagine… if people start announcing the winners before Contender Asia fans get a chance to watch the show… it’s very “shao xing” (spoil mood)

I understand there aren’t many Contender Asia fans in Singapore yet, afterall, Muay Thai is a relatively new sport/martial art in Singapore. That being said, now imagine if the scenario is played out for a Harry Potter story book.

I recalled a few months ago, when Harry Potter’s latest sequel came out, there were some idiots lurking around the internet shoving Harry Potter spoilers to others that haven’t read Harry Potter yet. Imagine if someone got to read the book 3 months before it was published and the spoilers were published in Newspaper, magazines, and on the internet. Everyone would be damn pissed right?

I said “3 months”, because I’ve watched the Contender Asia 3 months ago LIVE at Toa Payoh for many episodes and I’ve known for months that the final was going to be John Wayne Parr and Yodsanklai. (Yes, I signed the gag order too)
So perhaps we shouldn’t be so quick to judge the intentions of the producers of the show. Perhaps announcing the winner would spoil the entertainment of many others. And perhaps many of you can brush this off easily because you’re not really a fan of the show.

Isn’t very sad to know the ending before watching a show or reading a book?

Caught maybe 70% of the show via AXN. I am glad most bloggers refrained from even vague hints in their post titles, so I watched the final played out with some excitement. Caught it after a tough day so the 2-hour bundle of the three matches was quite rewarding!
