on Mar 30th, 2008Single Mothers will destroy their kids! [Maia Lee Part 2]
I won’t disagree that on psychological, emotional, financial and probably physical level… Single parents will have certain negative effects on their children.
However, single mothers that love their children would not harm their children on any level more than a typical nucleus family (a father and a mother) with problems. “Jia jia you ben nan yan zi jing” – everyone family has its own problems.
In Maia Lee’s pregnancy case, if you wish to blame Maia Lee for making the choice of potentially hurting her children, how about blaming the guys for knocking her up in the first place? And if Contender Asia contestant, Zidov, actually plays a father’s role in the child’s life, as he promised, then what is the problem? The kid will have a mother and father that does not live together, like millions of other families in the world.
What I’m disgusted at, however, is how people are critising Maia Lee for NOT going for an abortion. Who are these people to say “This baby is better off dead than being brought up by a perceived unfit mother”.
What’s wrong with you people? When we say women have the right to chose because it’s their own body, we gave them (us) the right to chose to abort the child OR keep the child.
If we can predict that the child would live an unhappy and unbalanced life, and thus feel that Maia should have aborted the child… then what about other cases whereby it is scientifically proven that the child would lead an unbalanced life?
Parents have a known congenital disease. They should not be allowed to have children so as not pollute our gene pool with defective humans? Parents that are retarded? Parents that are mentally or physically handicapped since they probably can’t give their children a “normal” lifestyle? So handicapped, diseased and retarded people should be sterilized by the government?
Are Singaporeans Nazis at heart? Do we really want to go down this slippery slope, feeling all morally high and mighty telling others to abort (some might say murder) their unborn child because they don’t approve of their mother?
Calling Maia Lee a whore for sleeping with a man she met for a few months… seriously.. if you really wish go hold a banner and stand outside the other known pubs in Singapore for men to get laid and women engaging in one night stands. And why aren’t we calling Zidov a bastard for sleeping with his girlfriend? I understand that we’re still an Asian society and that our traditional morals force us to put the blame on the women – a.k.a. it’s fine for men to sleep around with many women, he’s a Casanova. When women have sex with their boyfriends of one month, she’s a whore.
It’s just ridiculous the double standards especially when what we’re debating here isn’t about casual sex, it’s about men not getting the same kind of stigma as women even though they engage in similar or worse acts. Perhaps this is Singapore, and we all secretly love to read about these scandals in newspapers and magazines but are too ashamed to admit that everyone is doing it. We feel these people (like Maia Lee, Edison Chen, Gillian Cheung, Cecilia Chung etc.) should be shamed even though these are fellow humans that have only done human things – have sex.
Incase anyone haven’t read about the news The Electric New Paper has a story on Maia’s pregnancy
Independent Thoughts:
Keen about weight loss, don’t just grab the prescription drugs. Men should in particular avoid levitra or viagra until their dietician allows.

I will have to totally agree with you.
I am distraught too when I heard other people are encouraging her to go for an abortion. For a start, who are they to give such ludicrous remarks?
Anyway, I just hope she’ll deliver a nice healthy baby. Hopefully, her relationship with Zidov turns out better when the baby is born later.
Cheers~
I guess it’s just natural for people to like to criticize others… people go for abortion: “OMG baby killer!”… people keep the baby: “OMG you should abort the baby you’re a bad mother”
The world is a crazy crazy place isn’t it?
getting knocked up is one thing… happily going to the news about it is really another. why publicise something that’s “shameful”?
That’s the irony of things… she’s “publicizing” what YOU think is “shameful”
Even if she don’t reveal to the media, the media’s going to find out later… so what?
the way she did it was like she wants the world to know of her deed….also known as fame whoring
maybe shes just giving answers before people ask her lo
even if she wanted some fame out of her pregnancy, it still doesnt change the fact that the public is pushing all blame on her and not the guy… and telling her to go for abortion is plain immoral and stupid.
CRAP topic! I was a single child for most of my childhood…i turned out fine, in fact better by any standards!!! PUI!
Well, I think that is one aspect of being a “celebrity” that Maia should be used to. Negative publicity goes around and people talk what they want. Sometimes people are swayed by the news they get around them too.
Anyway, what she does is up to her and she is an adult, so why should we bother too much.
Nah… if anyone out there is unhappy about it. Juz tell her in the face. Dun sniff around someone’s back. Or even better tell Zidov about it… Juz prepare urself for the consequences.
LOL Grake!
ignorantsoup: no one should be used to getting told to go for an abortion or that she’s a bad mother.
I know this is being busybody, but ur Han Yu Pin Yin is wrong.
eh which han yu pin yin is wrong??
jia jia you ben nan nian de (or zhi) jing
