on Mar 12th, 2008Plastic bags… RIDICULOUS? You are ridiculous, friend.
…….
It’s 8.15am in the morning and I was reading a few blog posts before I head off to work. and. I. see. this. blog.

RIDICULOUS?
I’m so going to write a long essay to point out whose the ridiculous one. PLASTIC BAGS are BAD for the environment!
OBVIOUSLY, Singapore hasn’t been doing a good job educating Singaporeans the evils of Plastic Bags. Typical Singaporeans only know how to complain of the inconvenience it is for us to bring plastic bags.
Complain, complain, complain.
Soon the Earth we live in is going to die, but of course, why should we care? It’s only going to be dead during the times of our children and our grandchildren and perhaps, if lucky, our great grand children.
Selfish, selfish, conceited, little humans.
No, I’m not trying to lecture the blogger who wrote that post, because many other Singaporeans share his sentiments. But why are these Singaporeans so under-educated!!
*sigh*
I’ll come home tonight to write the long essay on why and what can we do to change Singaporean’s mindsets. I’ll just have to ponder about it in office.
*edit: sorry adamzhang, if I sounded too harsh. It’s really important for everyone to play a part to saving our Earth. And maybe it’s just infuriating to read about Singaporeans caring more about a little convenience than of the environment*

since many ago, i dun take plastic bag from ntuc, ect, use my own bag. not that im environment friendly, just that i dun like carrying plastic bags in hands.
Lol. I understand because I had the same sentiment, but I didn’t know what to comment on it. I wonder if its possible to reduce usage of plastic bags as garbage bags..
It is a fact that the current measures to reduce the use of plastics are ineffective and for show only. In Taiwan they have gone for ZERO usage for many years. No styro-foam boxes for food and cardboard or some kind of hard paper with wax is used. If you need to have a plastic bag you are charged for one. I think it’s NT$5 (around Singapore 25cts) for one and they don’t even give you one until you ask for it.
C’est correcte. You need much more than reusable bags selling for one (fecking) dollar to get people to change.
Like seriously. Get a focking life.
The way I see it, supermarkets are being hypocritical about this because its a darn simple thing to me to just snap and change to paper bags. But I acknowledge there may be many costs that I know nothing off involved in that switch.
Still… for Mother Earth? Please?
how about…. bring your own bag to the supermarket??!!
It can be a darn simple thing too, bring a light and foldable canvass bag to the supermarket.
simple?

Nowadays, i alway carry with me those “may the forest be with you” foldable canvas bag in the bag that i’m carrying. I seriously think that even with me doing that, its not enough to cost any impact to the whole cause. Some countries i visited, their supermarket are using paper bag and their pple really brought along thier own bags…I guess things like this takes times to implement and pple to get used to it.
Hi there,
Nah I don’t find it harsh.
Somehow it is kind of interesting that you have been keep on saying “Plastic bags are bad for the environment”, “Earth is going to die” and “evils of plastic bags” without providing any convincing facts.
If my blog entry was for providing my point of view and certain degree of argument on this issue, I feel your entry is more like a release of your internal frustration.
Hence which person or issue you have mentioned in your blog doesn’t really matter, right?
Regards,
Adam
