on Feb 17th, 2008Muay Thai – Contender Asia on AXN A MUST WATCH!
For those of you who don’t really know me, I’ve been learning Muay Thai with Combat Academy in Singapore for the past 6 months. I love Muay Thai because it’s stimulating and it helps me keep my body in shape
Some random noobs on the internet asked if I was abused or bullied as a kid when they heard that I learn Muay Thai. The answer is……… NO?! Duh!
I’ve always love sports. Represented my secondary school for dance and track & field and a proud member of my netball club. I’ve danced ballet for most of my life, but stopped ballet since 15. I’ve learnt International Latin dance (Cha Cha, Samba, Rhumba & Jive) for a couple of years, but I found it rather… slow as compared to ballet. I’ve taken some hip hop dance classes but I don’t really enjoy the dance moves that much.
I might be weird, but I found Muay Thai to be the best thing besides ballet. My parents don’t understand how a lady brought up learning ballet, piano and “lady like skills” would take up Muay Thai. It’s simple.
Like ballet, Muay Thai requires Determination, Perseverance, Discipline, Strength, Technique, and most of all – ♥♥ PASSION ♥♥.
The guys at my gym find it odd that I like to stand in front of the mirror to practice shadow boxing. It’s natural to me to practice in front of the mirror, as I have learnt from 10 years of ballet from Sylvia McCully Dance Studio that you have to look at the mirror to see if your form and positioning is right. Some people find it difficult to coordinate your legs when kicking, but to me, it’s like doing a grand battement (a high kick).
Anyway The Contender Asia is now airing on AXN and you can download the show from bit torrent websites like mininova.com if you don’t have AXN. Also, do pop by Contender Asia Fan website for more info about the show.
It’s a really good show, but too bad for you guys…. the show was best viewed when you’re sitting 2 meters away from the ring. Yes, I went for about 5 to 10 Contender Asia shows and it was definitely a BLAST! There were also various celebrities present during the show like Alvin, Pierre Png, Maia Lee (she does Muay Thai), Eunice Olsen and a few others… The highlight was still the Contender fights.. bruises, bloody noses, red patches from getting kicked… ouch!!! The adrenaline rush watching the Contender Asia live was simply so shiok that I actually considered training to fight professionally. That would have required me to train 5 times a week, 4 hours a day. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen because……… I’m afraid of pain
Ah well, I’ll continue practicing Muay Thai, though I haven’t been to lessons for the past 2 weeks because of my new job, I do hope I can continue training in this kick ass form of martial arts – Muay Thai.
BTW, if anyone sees my face in the audience of Contender Asia episodes, please let me know.
So far I only spotted the top of my head in Episode 5 (Soren vs Bruce). Can’t even see my face! My face was covered by another guy

*** I drew this with my tablet and Photoshop CS 2 last December, I’ve cropped the head away because I can’t get the face right. The girl looks ugly
