on Feb 15th, 2008To UZYN and PING.sg.
I’m sorry if I didn’t click on the link. With regards to my anti-virus detecting a possible breach in security from Ping.sg in my earlier post…..
1. I did not say that the link is a VIRUS. I know what a Virus is, I studied 3 bloody years of IT, I should at least be able to differentiate between a virus and a malware.
2. Yes, I did say that my anti-virus detected malware coming from Ping.sg. Again, I’m calling it a malware - not a virus.
3. Yes, anti-virus often detect things that are malware and security problems when they actually aren’t. Which was why in my last post, I said -
If my Avast anti-virus was too sensitive and the malware was a false alarm, please let me know so I can apologize.
4. Obviously I had no clue to what was contained within that link. I did not click on it nor did I bothered to investigate. Who would purposely click on a click that your anti-virus flagged as a malware?!
5.I have checked on the definition of a malware - as adviced by Uzyn - and this is what I got from Wikipedia
Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner’s informed consent. It is a portmanteau of the words “malicious” and “software“. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code.
6. A link can DEFINITELY lead to malware and spyware. Please do not listen to people that tell you it doesn’t. The internet IS a dangerous place !!! (esp. if you’re a IT-noob)
Lastly, I would like to say I am sorry that my post might potentially cause chaos within Ping.sg’s community. I did not intend for that to happen. However, I do not appreciate having Ping.sg’s owner coming to my blog telling me that I should go learn what a virus is (again, I did not say ping.sg got virus).

you are absolutely right…and there’s no need to give anyone explanation.
I felt I needed to because I actually do like the people at ping.sg
It’s not nice to create problems for people la…
hi priss. Although I know I’m not in the position to speak on anyone’s behalf, but personally I just want to say that cos ping.sg is uzyn’s baby, it is erm natural that he would be protective of it.
I hope you will continue liking us pingsters =)
Hey Priss, don’t worry about it. Okay, I told you about it is because as an IT person, or if I were you, if an anti-virus/anti-malware/anti-crapware tells me that a trusted site is infected and is with a URL, I would have visited the link directly and download the content and investigate further.
If you do the same for the link mentioned, the content is only pure HTML (with no embed/Active-X/whatsoever). If you (or anyone) to know some IT, pure HTML CANNOT contain any virus. And there’s no harm for you to download the content from even a proven virus-infected link (with embed/Active-X).
Give me the deadliest URL, I can still download and open the content on my computer to study more about it. And yes I’m on Windows. HTML cannot kill. It’s the executables/exploits that kill. You should know this since you’re an IT person after all.
Anyway, I was just upset when people make false accusations on blogs. They’re deadly, especially with the existence of a broadcast medium like Ping.sg.
PRISS! Call me when you free, you’re not responding to MSN.
Nice website!!
