on Feb 3rd, 2008A very stupid move - picture disaster!

As you guys know, I’ve been searching for a job for the past 3 weeks. My aunty dropped by from HongKong last week and she asked me to show her my resume so she can give me some advice.

Over the dinner at East Coast Park’s Longbeach seafood centre, I took out my resume and presented it to her. She started laughing and asked me where did I take the picture attached on my resume. She then showed my mother and another uncle the picture I was using for my resume and they both stated laughing.

I wanted to bury my head in the chilli crab plate!

Before I show you guys the picture… let me justify my reasons for using that picture for my resume. The picture was taken with a digital camera a couple months back after a makeover photo shoot. It was a family makeover photo shoot and I took a few pictures since the make-up and hair was nicely done. I thought since the make-up and hair was professionally done, and I looked okay in the picture - why not use it for my resume picture?

The picture:

The problem with this picture, according to my aunty and my mother, was…..

  1. I looked like my mother when she was in her late twenties
  2. I really look like my mother
  3. My hair and make-up and clothes looked like I was interviewing for a position at a KTV

Someone shoot me. I didn’t realise all those very valid reasons why I shouldn’t have used it for my resume AND I have already sent over 20 resumes out to potential employers!

Luckily my mother brought me to another makeover company called Picture Me (located at Suntec shopping mall 3rd floor) to take a more professional looking picture to submit for my resume.

Okay, it looks a little like a property agent. The women from Picture Me might have thought I’m a property agent because I was referred to by my mother - a property agent. haha. I guess at least this picture looks much more professional and serious!

Hopefully I can find a job with this new picture =D

My resume picture was done at the same place. Thought not as professional looking as what you have.

Now I am thinking of going back for a photoshot since they have a discount for valentine day @ $99.

Good luck for your job hunt!

hi may i know if picture me helps to apply make-up for you before the photo shot? thanks =)

I think I paid about $70 for the entire package which included hair and make-up. Without hair and make-up would cost less than $20 I think.

    =)
