My friend sent me a link. Quite amusing.

It got me thinking about the general teen population I’ve come to interact with over the years. Indeed for a period of time, I actually was one of them. Acting cool, trying to be cool, doing cool things etc. I eventually got sick of it when I turned 17. Big crowds and wannabes are quite laughable really. If you haven’t realised, they are all wannabes wannabe-ing the other bunch of wannabes. Essentially, they wanna be like every other wannabes!

Some people see it as a way of life, and honestly there isn’t anything bad about being “Neurotypical”. Except, being in the company of a Neurotypical now is such a big turnoff. Let me quote you a few lines from the article I just linked.

They do not perceive themselves as individuals in the manner that you or I do; they see themselves as individual members of a group, but in practice, the opinions of others weigh heavily upon them, and there is a great drive to obtain the acceptance and admiration of others around them, including complete strangers.

People with neurotypicality tend to communicate in a very vague manner.

The neurotypical individual typically has a very limited capacity for logic or rational thought.

AND IT IS TRUE! I shan’t generalise everyone, but seriously, these people are quite out of it. I personally know a few of them that will never grow out of it. Who can blame them, when human beings are such social animals. I’ve always been a little too opinionated for my own good, and those 2-3years belonging to certain “groups”, I’ve realised that unless my opinion is the same as everyone else, people actually consider you weird or dumb. I mostly laugh it off back then, act ignorant, apologise even. Then I realised that being opinionated isn’t wrong, and the wiser and more knowledgeable bunch actually bothers discussing and debating over my opinions.

I feel more so about the mass population of Singapore. I feel that the majority of the people love to just blindly follow. Basically, you elect (officially or unofficially) someone as your “speaker”, your tao eh, and whatever he/she says is the bible. Not because they fully believe in the person, nor is it blindly worshipping, it is that people don’t give a shit about anything. No one gives a shit about economy (except when it involves your own rice bowl), no one gives a shit about which government is governing (as long as it doesn’t make life difficult for you), and no one gives a shit about world issues (unless it affects the economy, which affects your rice bowl). SO, NO ONE GIVES A SHIT.

It is true though, why should they give a shit. Us Chinese have always been known to be selfish and extremely materialistic. I’ll have to admit in this ending, that I myself love to read about world knowledge because I find engaging in intellectual conversations extremely interesting. Also, I can boast to my peers how I’m more knowledgeable than them. So should we give a shit for the sake of giving a shit?
