Ok, so I have settled booking for ChengDu’s accomodation with Sim’s Cozy Hostel. Apparently, this hostel is run by a Singaporean man and his Japanese wife. I think it’s good to trust people from your hometown when you’re overseas, so I guess staying there would be best.

I still can’t decide whether we’ll be going to Jiu Zhai Gou and Er Mei Shan, but the tour desk of Sim’s Cozy told me that it was ‘cold season’ for traveling and it shouldn’t be a problem to book the tour when we reach ChengDu. Again, I’m a control freak and I like to plan ahead… but I guess we’ll just have to follow the flow.

It was like that Sydney trip me and my boyfriend took. We bought the tickets online, booked a hostel, two days later we were on a ten hour overnight coach ride to Sydney (departed Melbourne). With no plans, no idea where to go or what to do… we ended up staying in a hostel in Sydney’s red light district - King’s Cross. It’s not as rowdy as Singapore’s geylang, but it sure was colourful at night!

The backpacking culture in Australia is seriously awesome, there’s a very good system in place for all you backpackers wanna-be. Basically, at the train station or Airports, there will be stacks of tourist information for all the attractions. Most of the places are very accessible by public transport, so you don’t even need to rent a car or join a tour. Aussies are generally very tourist-friendly, which is why even though I’m a student in Melbourne, I always pretend I’m a tourist to get better service ;)

Everyone should go Australia to backpack at least once. There was this German guy we met in Sydney that rented a car and toured the whole of Australia for almost one year! Of course, he had to work odd jobs to support his adventure. Some students even help clean the hostels to earn some money for accommodation as well as traveling money.

In a nut shell… Australia ROCKS… only if you’re traveling there. It’s a shitty place to live in unfortunately.
